Description:
Council meeting with Joseph Smith in attendance. Business conducted included resolutions that Joseph Smith, Vinson Knight, and Alanson Ripley visit Iowa to ascertain settlement locations, and that brethren be advised to settle as quickly as possible at Commerce, Illinois. Matters involving Joseph Smith, Sr. and David W. Rogers were also considered. Recorded by clerk James Mulholland. Later annotations were made by clerk Robert B. Thompson during writing of Church history.

Council meeting, with members of the Twelve and others in attendance. Cornerstone for a temple in Far West was laid, and disciplinary action was taken against Isaac Russell, the Scott family, and others. Recorded by John Taylor. Later annotations by Willard Richards.

Description:
General Conference, with Joseph Smith in attendance. Joseph Smith spoke on May 4, and business included Iowa land purchases, creation of a history committee, status of Kirtland, suspension of Orson Hyde and William Smith from their offices in the Twelve, and mission of the Twelve to Europe. May 5 business included appointments of Sidney Rigdon to Washington, D.C., of A. W. Babbitt to Springfield, Illinois, and of Lyman Wight to collect affidavits of losses in Missouri. General Conference, with Joseph Smith presiding. Business included location of stakes, building of a temple, city plot debts, a city charter, and printing of a new edition of the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith spoke about baptism for the dead; other speakers were Hyrum Smith and John C. Bennett. Appointments were made for A. W. Babbitt to preside at Kirtland, for Samuel Bennett to preside at Cincinnati, and for Robert B. Thompson to act as general church scribe. Recorded by Robert B. Thompson.

Willard Richards's draft notes of Joseph Smith's sermon on baptism for the dead during General Conference session. Notes were written in pencil and portions are illegible. Includes Richards's notations regarding a steamboat schedule, lines of poetry, and copy of bearer's note dated 26 October 1841. There is also a partial sheet of notations regarding land matters in Warren, Illinois.
