Description:
Recounts early life in Denmark, his attitude toward his father and the state church of Denmark, conversion to the Church in Boston, experiences in Nauvoo, travel to Utah in 1847, and missionary activities in Denmark. Includes account of work to translate the Book of Mormon into Danish. Also includes account of later activities in Utah, particularly in Sanpete County. Copy from earlier diaries. Account of Hanson's emigrant journey to Utah in the Howard Egan company (1849). Mentions traveling to St. Joseph, Missouri under the direction of William Weeks; encountering numerous westbound gold seekers; traveling through Nebraska and Wyoming; and cholera outbreaks. Includes specific geographic details, lists of deaths, list of company members, their ages, stock, other animals and other goods. Miscellaneous newspaper articles and notations, several of which were authored by P. O. Hansen.
