Bound in brown horizontally striated sheep with a thin ornamental border in blind on the covers, ruled bands and the title in gilt on the backstrip, maroon coated endsheets, and the remnant of a clasp; rebacked with most of the original backstrip laid down, joints strengthened with tissue, rubbed, heavily worn at the corners, a scar from a removed label on the front cover, old library notations in white paint on the backstrip.
“[Name effaced] Hymn Book April 1st 1841” on the recto of the front free endsheet and verso of the rear free endsheet, old library number on the recto of the front free endsheet. Handwritten musical staffs and notes in ink on the verso of the front free endsheet, recto and verso of the first, recto of the second, and recto of the third rear free endsheets, pencil notations on pp. 2 and 4.
