Summary:
Transcript of two autobiographical accounts prepared by Brigham Young University Library in 1952, including detailed table of contents and name index.
The first account, twenty pages in length, was begun in Parowan, Utah, in June 1852, with entries being made periodically thereafter until about 1872. Includes information about Duncan's conversion to Mormonism and his experiences during mob difficulties in Missouri, followed by briefer narrative of his missionary labors in Vermont and Virginia; his 1848 journey to Utah; his move to Parowan; his 1852-1853 mission to China; his 1856-1857 mission to Carson Valley, Nevada, and experiences in California; and his subsequent activities in Utah and Salt Lake counties in Utah. Reminiscence is followed by undated bylaws of Iron City Mine near Pinto, Utah; roster of Amasa Lyman's 1848 wagon company, their livestock, and provisions; and notes regarding Duncan's work as a school teacher, 1870-1874.
Undated second account, fourteen pages in length, tells of Duncan's association with the Latter-day Saints and anti-Mormon activity in Jackson County, Missouri, as well as subsequent experiences with mobs in Clay and Daviess counties to 1838. A handwritten version of this reminiscence has been cataloged as MS 11333.
